Dallas Texas Weather: Highs Near 80 Degrees Expected Before Christmas Week

Unseasonably warm weather is settling across North Texas as a powerful high-pressure system moves in, driving temperatures well above normal and laying the groundwork for a springlike feel heading into Christmas week.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are likely to be 15 to 25 degrees higher than seasonal averages for much of next week. Daytime temperatures in Dallas are expected to rise into the low to upper 70s, with some areas reaching 80 degrees by midweek. Normal highs for this time of year are normally in the mid-50s.

The warming trend will be prevalent throughout North Texas. Forecast highs in Waco, Temple, and Killeen are predicted to reach the upper 70s, while Sherman and Denison may also enjoy mid- to upper 70s temps. Overnight lows will continue mild, ranging from the mid 50s to around 60 degrees, confirming the uncommon warmth.

The rise in temperatures is being driven by continuous high pressure aloft, which is reducing cloud cover and allowing strong southerly flow to bring warmer air northward. While no precipitation is forecast in the immediate term, the warm and dry conditions may raise fire weather awareness in grassy areas if winds pick up.

Residents may notice that the temperature affects traditional holiday activities, with outdoor plans feeling more like early spring than late December. Those traveling or decorating outside may enjoy ideal conditions, while officials advise folks to stay hydrated and be aware of the fast changing weather patterns prevalent this time of year.

The warm weather is predicted to persist in the days running up to Christmas, with any significant cooldown likely delayed until after the holiday. Forecasters will continue to track whether temperatures approach or challenge daily records throughout the week.
