92,000+ Americans Impacted After Data Breach at Healthcare Firm Oglethorpe

A Florida-based healthcare company is warning thousands of patients after a data security incident exposed personal and medical information.

According to a filing with the state of Maine, the breach affected 92,332 individuals tied to Oglethorpe, a mental health and addiction recovery provider operating facilities in Florida, Louisiana, and Ohio.

The company reported that an unauthorized third party gained access to its network, potentially exposing names, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, and medical information.

“We wiped and rebuilt affected systems and have taken steps to bolster our network security,” Oglethorpe said in its statement. “We are reviewing and altering our policies, procedures, and network security software, as well as how we store and manage data. Further, we notified the FBI and are fully cooperating with their investigation.”

Oglethorpe is offering one year of free credit monitoring to those whose information may have been compromised.

The company has not confirmed whether the breach impacted patients at all of its treatment facilities, but emphasized that it has taken immediate steps to strengthen its cybersecurity defenses.
