A Davenport man is in Scott County Jail on a $40,000 secured bond after police say he shot and seriously injured another man early Thursday morning.
Officers responded around 1:13 a.m. October 2 to the 2900 block of Dubuque Street for a report of a gunshot victim. Investigators later determined the shooting occurred in the 7200 block of W. 72nd Street.
Witnesses told police that 21-year-old Tamariyon Jefferson and the victim got into a physical fight. During the altercation, Jefferson allegedly fired his gun, striking the victim in the hip. The injury was serious but not life-threatening. The victim was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Officers recovered the firearm used in the shooting, and Jefferson admitted to firing the weapon, which he said belonged to him.
Jefferson was arrested and charged with felony counts of reckless use of a firearm causing serious injury, trafficking in stolen weapons, and willful injury. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 10 at 10 a.m.
