DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — A Davenport man is facing multiple charges after police said he entered an apartment building while carrying a hatchet and appeared to be under the influence.
Jerry Clark II, 54, is charged with felony interference with official acts involving a dangerous weapon and possession or carrying of a dangerous weapon while under the influence.
According to court documents, officers found Clark walking along West 12th Street Thursday morning while swinging a hatchet. Police said they ordered him to stop, but he refused and walked into a random apartment building.
Clark reportedly made his way to the third floor while still holding the hatchet. Officers said he raised the weapon after they told him to put it down. Police were eventually able to get Clark to drop the hatchet.
Authorities said the blade was sharp enough to seriously injure or kill someone.
Police also reported that Clark smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and was found carrying an open bottle of vodka.
Court records show a preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday. Clark remains in custody at the Scott County Jail on a $2,000 bond, according to the jail’s website.
