DAVIE, Fla. — More than a year after a hit-and-run killed a woman in Davie, police have arrested the driver.
Gregorio Puentes Fuentes was taken into custody this week in connection with the crash that killed 32-year-old Nicole Bobb, Davie Police said.
Nicole Bobb’s mother, Elizabeth, said the family experienced a mix of emotions when they learned of the arrest.
“Happy, sad, it’s like I want to tell Nicole, that was my first thought, I want her to know they found the person, and I think she knows, I think she knows,” Elizabeth Bobb said. “We’re happy that justice is going to be served.”
Investigators said Bobb was crossing South Flamingo Road on Oct. 4, 2024, when Fuentes hit her and did not stop. According to the arrest report, Fuentes drove his damaged car home, went inside, then left in another vehicle. He later returned to South Flamingo Road while police were on the scene but never got out or spoke to officers.
“Had this person hit her and stopped, the whole thing would be entirely different,” her mother said. “He has children of his own. How would he have felt if that was his son?”
Authorities used cellphone data and surveillance footage to identify Fuentes as the driver.
Court records noted that upon his arrest, Fuentes told his wife, “there’s no sense in living anymore and he’ll never see them again.”
Nicole Bobb’s family remembered her as loving, compassionate, and caring, with a special fondness for animals.
“She was very compassionate; she always wanted to help the underdog,” her mother said.
All the family has now are memories, photos, and some of her personal belongings, including her phone, sunglasses, and jewelry.
“The message to all drivers, stay at the scene, it’ll be much better for you,” her mother said.
Fuentes was released on bond Friday.
