Dog found decapitated on Florida’s Turnpike died days earlier, was run over, sheriff says

A dog found decapitated on Florida’s Turnpike in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday had already been dead for several days before the incident, authorities said.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported that the dog was deceased and its body was already decomposing when a vehicle struck it, causing the decapitation.

The dog was discovered in the Princeton area, and deputies said their investigation has since concluded.

Miami-Dade County Animal Services also issued a statement addressing the incident.

“Protecting animals, who cannot speak for themselves, relies on the vigilance of our community. Reporting suspicious activity directly to us is the first and most important step in any investigation. As with all crimes, cases of animal cruelty require careful documentation of evidence and witness accounts to ensure justice is served.”
