Double-Digit Snowfall Possible in Parts of Illinois

ILLINOIS — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Kankakee County, including the cities of Bourbonnais, Kankakee, and Bradley, in effect from midnight Sunday night through noon Monday.

Residents are being warned of dangerous travel conditions as lake-effect snow could bring snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with localized totals possibly reaching 6 to 10 inches or more.

The heaviest snow is expected near and east of Interstate 57, where untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may quickly become slick and hazardous.

“Lake effect snow is often very localized, with conditions varying from safe to dangerous across just a few miles,” the NWS explained.

Officials are urging motorists to delay travel if possible. Those who must be on the road should use extreme caution, as visibility and road conditions can change rapidly.
