Driver Charged with DUI After Indiana Semi-Truck Crash

HAMMOND, Ind. — A Florida truck driver faces charges after crashing into another semi on I-80 Thursday night.

Around 9 p.m., Indiana state troopers responded to a two-semi crash on I-80 eastbound at the 3.7 mile-marker near Indianapolis Boulevard. Investigators determined that Jean C. Muniz-Rios, 37, of Saint Cloud, Florida, made an unsafe lane change and rear-ended another semi.

During the investigation, troopers suspected Muniz-Rios had consumed alcohol before the crash and began an OWI probe. ISP said Muniz-Rios refused a chemical test for intoxication, prompting officers to obtain a search warrant for a blood draw from a Lake County judge.

“That warrant was completed at a local hospital,” ISP said. “Once completed, the suspect was transported to the Lake County Jail.”

Muniz-Rios now faces preliminary charges of Operating While Intoxicated Endangering (Class A misdemeanor) and Operating While Intoxicated (Class C misdemeanor).
