Drought Conditions Worsen Across Central Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Hot temperatures and a lack of rain are worsening drought conditions in central Illinois.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows the entire region experiencing some level of drought.

In Tazewell County, moderate drought now covers the entire county, up from about 19% last week.

Nearly 94% of Peoria County is in moderate drought, with only a small area in the northern part classified as abnormally dry.

About 82% of Woodford County faces moderate drought, while the northeastern section remains abnormally dry.

Most of central Illinois has received less than a tenth of an inch of rain since mid-August, with temperatures ranging from the high 80s to 90s over the past week.

Statewide, severe drought conditions are expanding in southern and east-central Illinois.
