A 63-year-old Englewood woman died last week following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 near Colonia Lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Collision Details
Troopers said a Ram 3500 truck was traveling southbound in the center lane of U.S. 41 when a northbound Cadillac attempted to make a U-turn from the left-turn-only lane at the Colonia Lane intersection.
The Cadillac turned directly into the path of the truck, causing a violent collision that pushed the car southbound until it crashed into a storefront in the 900 block of U.S. 41.
The Cadillac’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition, FHP said.
County Crash Statistics
So far in 2025, Sarasota County has reported 5,335 crashes, resulting in 27 fatalities and 3,598 injuries, according to state crash data.
Manatee County has seen 4,824 crashes, with 37 deaths and 3,566 injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the deadly crash.
