Ex-Miami-Dade Officer Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Child Molestation

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — A former Miami-Dade police officer convicted of molesting three children has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

Daniel Ramos Aviles, 43, was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years on each of the three molestation charges, with the sentences to run concurrently. Following his prison term, Aviles will be on probation for life and required to register as a sex offender.

Aviles, who was arrested by his own department two years ago and subsequently fired, had been accused of molesting three children he knew. Prosecutors said he inappropriately touched the children while they were swimming and playing games.

At trial, Aviles denied the allegations, but jurors convicted him on three of the seven charges he faced after hearing testimony from the victims and deliberating for a few hours. He had been facing a potential life sentence.

The former officer served approximately 10 years with the Miami-Dade Police Department before his arrest.
