Ex-Secret Service Agent Logan Forsythe Launches Bid for McConnell’s Senate Seat: “If You’re Pissed Off Like Me”

Former U.S. Secret Service Special Agent Logan Forsythe announced Tuesday that he’s running as a Democrat for Kentucky’s open U.S. Senate seat in 2026 — the one long held by Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell, who is stepping down after seven terms. McConnell first won the seat in 1972, years before Forsythe was born.

In a launch video shared on social media, Forsythe laid out his biography and the issues motivating his run:

“I grew up on Medicaid and food stamps. Stripped tobacco at the age of 7. Lived in the back of a Dodge Caravan in high school. Married a teacher. Served my country.”

Forsythe, who later earned a college and law degree, worked for the U.S. Department of Defense before transferring to the Secret Service, where he protected both President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. Today he’s a workers’ rights attorney in rural Kentucky.

He says his campaign is rooted in protecting the programs that helped him succeed:

“I’m running for Senate because KY families deserve better than cuts to Medicaid, SNAP & vets’ services. If you’re pissed off like me, join our campaign today.”

Speaking to Louisville Public Media, Forsythe criticized recent budget cuts:

“The budget bill that’s just passed … it’s taken away a lot of the support systems and the opportunities that I relied on growing up. … I am running right now to help protect those opportunities for the people that are going to come after me, because I don’t believe in walking through a door and then shutting it after I get to the other side.”

So far, only one other Democrat has entered the race: Kentucky House Minority Leader Pamela Stevenson. On the Republican side, four candidates have declared, including U.S. Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

Forsythe’s announcement sets up what could be one of the most closely watched Senate races of 2026.
