The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent warning about certain kitchen tools that could release harmful chemicals, including lead, into food.
FDA investigators tested cookware sold at retail locations in the U.S. and identified four products containing lead, a toxic metal that makes food unsafe for consumption. The affected items, made by Tiger White, Silver Horse, and JK Vallabhdas, are aluminum cookware manufactured in India.
The items include a milk pan and three circular, flat-bottomed pans. They were found in stores in New York (Mannan Supermarket) and Illinois (Patel Brothers and Indiacos). It is currently unclear if the products were distributed elsewhere.
Consumers are advised to check their homes for these products and discard any utensils that may contain lead. Retailers and distributors selling cookware are urged to consult the FDA regarding the safety and regulatory status of their products.
