MILAN, Illinois — Fire crews responded Sunday morning to a house fire in Milan.
Arriving at the 800 block of W. 13th Street, firefighters found flames coming from a first-floor window. The Blackhawk Fire Protection District said a large accumulation of personal items inside the home made it difficult to extinguish the fire. Because the interior was unsafe, responders removed exterior windows to access and put out the flames.
One person was home at the time and evacuated safely. They were evaluated on-site and released. No firefighters were injured.
The Blackhawk Fire Investigation Division determined the fire was accidental, caused by cooking equipment being used too close to combustible materials.
Assisting at the scene were the Coyne Center, Coal Valley, and Andalusia Fire Protection Districts, Coal Valley Air 24, and MidAmerican Energy.
