TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A new bill, SB 166, proposes that minors must obtain parental or guardian consent to receive treatment for certain sexually transmitted diseases.
The bill, introduced by Senator Erin Grall (R), would also prevent healthcare providers from offering maternal health or contraceptive services and information to minors without parental permission. This includes cases where a physician believes withholding services could pose a probable health risk to the minor.
Under the amended bill, parental consent would not be required for an examination, but treatment could not be administered without written proof of consent.
Failure to comply with the consent requirements could lead to administrative fines or other penalties.
If approved, the bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
