Florida gas prices are lower than they were a year ago, thanks to steady oil supplies and softer demand compared to previous years. While global events can influence fuel costs, analysts say there is no clear sign yet that recent developments will significantly affect prices.
Florida drivers are paying less at the pump than this time last year, though uncertainty in global markets remains a factor to watch. Sunday’s statewide average was $2.83 per gallon, which is:
-
8 cents higher than a week ago
-
15 cents lower than a month ago
-
29 cents lower than a year ago
Although recent events in Venezuela have drawn attention, oil prices have stayed relatively stable. U.S. crude oil closed Friday at $57.32 per barrel, up just 58 cents from the prior week. Venezuela was once a major crude oil producer, but sanctions have limited its exports for years. Analysts note that global supply remains adequate, though any major disruption could push prices higher.
“Florida gas prices are lower than a year ago because oil supplies have been steady and demand has softened compared to previous years,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While global events can influence prices, there’s no indication yet that recent developments will have a significant effect.”
A Look Back at 2025
Florida’s daily average gas price in 2025 was $3.04 per gallon, about 25 cents less than in 2024. Prices stayed lower largely because global oil production increased while demand growth slowed after the post-pandemic surge seen in 2024. The highest daily average in 2025 reached $3.23, compared with $3.64 in 2024. The lowest price last year was $2.74, while the low point in 2024 was $2.99.
