Tallahassee, FL — A widespread hard freeze and dangerously cold conditions are expected across parts of Florida, southern Georgia, and southeast Alabama, leading to multiple Freeze Warnings, Cold Weather Advisories, and a Freeze Watch heading into early next week.
The National Weather Service said a Hard Freeze Warning remains in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning, with overnight lows falling to around 22 degrees in parts of southeast Alabama and south-central and southwest Georgia. A Cold Weather Advisory will also be in place, as wind chills are expected to dip into the teens.
Areas affected include much of south Georgia, sections of southeast Alabama, and large portions of north and northeast Florida, covering both inland and coastal communities. Impacted cities include Albany, Valdosta, Thomasville, Bainbridge, and Dothan, along with areas of the Panhandle and First Coast such as Panama City, Apalachicola, Fernandina Beach, and St. Simons Island.
Beyond Monday’s freeze, forecasters have issued a Freeze Watch for late Monday night into Tuesday morning, with temperatures once again expected to fall into the low 20s, raising concerns about a second night of hard freeze conditions.
Meteorologists warn that frost and freezing temperatures could destroy crops and sensitive plants, damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, and pose serious risks to pets and vulnerable individuals. Wind chills between 14 and 17 degrees could increase the danger of hypothermia or frostbite with prolonged exposure.
Residents are encouraged to protect delicate plants, wrap or drain exposed pipes, bring pets indoors, and regularly check on elderly neighbors. Officials also urge safe use of portable heaters and warn that generators or grills should never be operated indoors.
In parts of coastal northeast Florida, a Wind Advisory is also in effect, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph, increasing the threat of power outages and flying debris.
Residents are advised to continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as this significant cold outbreak affects the Southeast through Tuesday morning.
