Florida-Georgia Freeze Watch: Temperatures Could Drop to 27° Tuesday Morning

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Freeze Watch is in effect for northeast Florida and southeast Georgia as temperatures are forecast to plunge into the upper 20s late Monday night through early Tuesday morning—marking one of the coldest mornings of the season.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville said the watch covers areas from Gainesville and Lake City north to Waycross, Douglas, and Jesup, Georgia. The advisory runs from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday, with subfreezing lows near 27°F expected in rural and inland locations.

Forecasters caution that tender plants, crops, and outdoor pets could be at risk during the freeze. Officials also urge residents to protect children, the elderly, and the homeless, who are especially vulnerable to cold exposure.

Residents should cover plants, insulate outdoor pipes, bring pets inside, and check on neighbors before temperatures drop Monday night. Clear skies and calm winds will set the stage for rapid cooling and widespread frost.

Warmer conditions are expected to return by midweek as the cold air mass shifts eastward.
