Shocking footage has surfaced on social media showing federal immigration agents dragging a woman in medical scrubs out of her car, highlighting the aggressive tactics used by ICE under the Trump administration.
The woman, reportedly on her way to work in Florida, can be seen resisting and screaming in distress as officers pin her down. In the video, she cries, “I’m a U.S. citizen, please help me. This is unfair. Why are you doing this to me?” The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. in Key Largo, in front of the Pink Plaza at mile marker 103.4, where ICE officers stopped her white Toyota Corolla and surrounded the vehicle, according to the Miami Herald.
The woman was released shortly after the incident. It happened while border patrol agents were conducting operations at Rowell’s Waterfront Park at mile marker 104.5 on the bayside of Key Largo between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the woman initially refused to roll down her window or provide her driver’s license. Once the officers verified her U.S. citizenship, she was released. Agency spokesman Alan Regalado told the Miami Herald, “She refused to cooperate and identify herself with all levels of law enforcement there.”
Florida is home to one of the nation’s largest immigration detention centers, known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” which has drawn widespread criticism this year.
Amnesty International released a report on Dec. 4 documenting cruel and inhumane treatment at two Florida detention centers: The Everglades Detention Facility (“Alligator Alcatraz”) and the Krome North Service Processing Center (Krome). The report cites human rights violations, in some cases amounting to torture, including unsanitary living conditions, overflowing toilets, limited access to showers, constant lighting, poor-quality food and water, lack of privacy, and exposure to insects.
“Krome’s extreme overcrowding, medical neglect, and reports of humiliating and degrading treatment paint a picture of harrowing human rights violations,” said Amy Fischer, Director of Refugee and Migrant Rights with Amnesty International USA.
ICE operations have intensified across U.S. cities as part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, with recent raids reported in Minneapolis and New Orleans.
