Florida Mom Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Son Over Chores

MIAMI, Fla. — A Florida mother is facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting her teenage son with a broomstick and cleaning chemicals over missed chores.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Maria Carla Rodriguez following the incident at her home on Monday night. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to police, the altercation began around 9:20 p.m. when Rodriguez became angry that her son hadn’t completed his daily chores. She allegedly threw a fork at him, then struck him with a broom, leaving bruises on his chest and arms.

The incident escalated further when Rodriguez reportedly ordered her son to clean the toilet and sprayed a chemical cleaning product in his face, causing redness, swelling, and eye irritation.

Rodriguez denied any physical abuse when questioned, claiming she was unaware of how her son was injured. She was booked into jail Monday night, and no bond had been set at the time of the report.
