A Salvation Army bell ringer was arrested after deputies said he attempted to impale a Publix manager with a donation kettle tripod.
Authorities identified the suspect as Steven Pavlik, 63, who was working as a Salvation Army bell ringer at the Publix on Kanner Highway at the time of the incident.
Deputies said Pavlik had been hired to collect donations during the holiday season but instead caused a disturbance outside the store. Witnesses reported that he appeared intoxicated while on duty and confronted customers as they entered and exited the store.
The situation escalated when a Publix manager approached Pavlik to address the behavior. Deputies said Pavlik then became violent and tried to assault and impale the manager with the donation tripod. The manager was not injured.
Pavlik fled the scene, but deputies later located him at his residence. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Martin County Jail.
