Fort Lauderdale Man Killed in Florida’s Turnpike Crash, FHP Says

An investigation is underway in Broward County after a multivehicle crash on Florida’s Turnpike left a Fort Lauderdale man dead early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Troopers said a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old woman from Pembroke Pines was traveling northbound on the turnpike north of Sunrise Boulevard in Sunrise when it crashed into the rear of another car.

That second vehicle, driven by a 67-year-old Fort Lauderdale man, struck a guardrail and rolled over, eventually coming to rest on its roof. The driver was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, FHP said.

The first vehicle continued over the outside paved shoulder and went down a ditch.

FHP confirmed that a passenger in that vehicle, identified as a 31-year-old Fort Lauderdale man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was also taken to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
