North Georgia residents should prepare for a winter-like chill as the first freeze of the season is expected early next week.
Forecasters predict temperatures dropping into the 20s across much of North Georgia by early Tuesday morning, marking the region’s coldest stretch since last winter. To be officially classified as a freeze, surface temperatures must remain at or below 32 degrees for several hours — a condition likely to be met in many areas.
Although no freeze watches or warnings have been issued yet, the National Weather Service may post alerts as Tuesday approaches. The upcoming cold blast will follow a strong cold front bringing rounds of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the weekend.
North Georgia Forecast:
Highs will hold steady in the mid-70s through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, before cooling into the mid-60s by Sunday. Rain chances increase Friday evening, with additional showers expected Saturday and Sunday. While the weekend won’t be a complete washout, periodic rain will precede the coldest air of the season.
Once the rain clears early Monday morning, temperatures will plunge into the 30s, and the coldest afternoon will follow, with highs only in the mid-40s. The reinforcing cold air arriving Tuesday will drop morning lows into the 20s, followed by a sunny but chilly Veterans Day, as highs reach the low to mid-50s.
By Wednesday, the cold snap will ease, with highs rebounding to the 60s and morning lows in the 40s, signaling a gradual return to milder fall conditions.
