BETHLEHEM, N.Y. — State police have identified the woman killed in a weekend crash on Interstate 87 as Claudia Hargis-Grover, 63, of Glens Falls.
The crash happened around 4:44 p.m. Saturday near Exit 23, involving three vehicles, according to New York State Police.
Investigators said a 37-year-old Virginia man driving a Chevrolet sedan was speeding in the left lane when he tried to switch to the right lane, sideswiping a pickup truck. He then swerved back into the left lane and rear-ended Hargis-Grover’s vehicle, sending it into a guardrail along the left shoulder.
Hargis-Grover was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The pickup truck’s driver and passenger were also hospitalized at Samaritan Hospital — Albany Memorial Campus, both with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers said the driver of the Chevrolet showed no signs of impairment, passing a field sobriety test. An alcohol breath test was negative, but he was cited for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
