FLORIDA CITY, Fla. (WSVN) — Authorities have released surveillance footage and 911 calls related to a multi-vehicle crash involving a Homestead Police officer allegedly driving under the influence.
The incident occurred Sept. 2 at the intersection of East Palm Drive and U.S. 1, beginning with a hit-and-run involving a black Honda CR-V.
A bystander told dispatch, “He hit a car and he took off, and I followed him.”
Investigators said Officer Henry Quintero was driving the CR-V when he ran a red light and collided with a Ford Bronco, which then overturned and struck a Ford Mustang. The good Samaritan followed the CR-V while alerting authorities.
During the 911 call, the witness said, “I’m following a car that hit somebody. He took a red light and took off.” At one point, the witness reported seeing Quintero attempt to escape in another vehicle.
Authorities arrived shortly after and took Quintero into custody. The arrest report noted he smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and slurred speech. When questioned, Quintero reportedly said he ran because he “had somewhere to go.”
Quintero was charged with:
-
Driving under the influence
-
Causing damage to property
-
Leaving the scene of an accident
-
Reckless driving
When asked for comment leaving jail, Quintero said, “Not at this time, I’m sorry.” He has been suspended with pay pending investigation.
