Houston is set to experience one last burst of summer-like warmth before a powerful cold front sweeps through, delivering breezy and much cooler conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, patchy fog will clear by 9 a.m., making way for sunny skies and highs near 85 degrees. Light southerly winds will shift to the southwest at 5 to 10 mph later in the morning.
The warmth will linger into Friday night, with mostly clear skies and a low around 66 degrees. FOX 26 Houston reports that humid air will create patchy fog through early Saturday, which may reduce visibility during the morning commute.
Saturday will be hot, with highs in the upper 80s—just shy of the record 89 degrees—before a strong cold front moves in late that night, bringing a 20% chance of showers.
By Sunday, the front will usher in a brisk change. Winds could gust up to 30 mph, and highs will fall into the low 70s. Behind the front, temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with lows dipping into the low 40s Monday and Tuesday mornings. Areas north of Houston could even see readings in the 30s.
The National Weather Service predicts sunny but cool conditions on Monday, with highs near 59 degrees and lows around 42. For Veterans Day, temperatures will rebound to near 70 degrees under clear skies.
Meanwhile, the latest drought monitor shows worsening dry conditions across Southeast Texas, with severe drought impacting parts of Austin, Colorado, and Wharton counties.
As Houstonians enjoy the final warm days of the season, a dramatic shift to fall weather is just around the corner.
