IDOT to Reopen Some Lanes for Thanksgiving Travel; Others Will Stay Closed

Some Illinois road projects will pause for the Thanksgiving weekend, while others will remain closed to drivers.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that several construction-related lane closures will temporarily reopen to ease holiday travel. From 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26 through 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, all non-emergency closures will be lifted.

However, officials warn that many work zones across the state will stay closed throughout the long weekend.

In Winnebago County, lane reductions will continue on Illinois Route 2 over the Rock River near Rockton.

Travelers heading outside the area should expect additional closures across Illinois. IDOT urges drivers to watch for changing conditions and allow extra time for delays.
