SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois is offering a fourth round of $4,000 rebates for eligible electric vehicles, even after the federal EV tax credit ends.
The program opens on October 28, 2025, and runs through January 31, 2026, or until funds run out. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has set aside $14 million for the rebates.
Eligible applicants can receive:
-
$2,000 for a new or used electric car, or $1,500 for an electric motorcycle.
-
Low-income residents earning less than 80% of their county’s threshold can qualify for an additional $2,000, bringing the total rebate to $4,000.
Vehicles must cost less than $80,000, not have received a rebate in prior cycles (tracked via VIN), and be sold by a dealership licensed by the Illinois Secretary of State. Applicants cannot have received a previous Illinois EV rebate.
In 2025, Illinois awarded 3,500 EV rebates. Previous years saw 3,000 rebates in 2024 and 4,872 in 2023, when the program had a larger budget. Applications must be submitted within 180 days of purchase via the IEPA’s Electric Vehicle Rebate Program website.
The federal EV tax credit, which offered up to $7,500 toward an EV purchase, ended September 30, 2025. As of September 2025, Illinois has 152,106 registered EVs. Gov. JB Pritzker has set a goal of 1 million clean energy vehicles on Illinois roads by 2030.
