Illinois Man Sentenced to 27 Years for Stabbing Girlfriend’s 9-Year-Old Daughter

In Illinois, 32-year-old D. Fisher has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for a brutal attack on his girlfriend’s 9-year-old daughter. Fisher pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, admitting he “snapped” and stabbed the child multiple times simply because she was stomping around their home.

Under the sentence, Fisher must serve at least 85% of his term before becoming eligible for release. Afterward, he will be placed under three years of supervised release and must register as a violent offender against youth.

The attack happened on February 15, 2024. The girl’s mother, alerted by the school that her daughter had not arrived for class, rushed home and saw Fisher leaving the residence. Inside, she found her daughter bleeding from multiple stab wounds, including a severe neck injury. Emergency crews rushed the child to the hospital, where she received lifesaving care.

Authorities later apprehended Fisher at a nearby train station after he attempted to flee. According to prosecutors, he told investigators he wore an oven glove while stabbing the child so he wouldn’t injure himself. He also expressed disbelief that she had survived.

The case was prosecuted by the county’s Special Victims Unit. “Every child’s life and safety is precious,” said State’s Attorney E. Rinehart, praising the work of prosecutors, victim advocates, and mental health professionals who pursued justice.

Although the victim’s name has not been released, her survival has been hailed as remarkable. Her recovery—both physical and emotional—continues, but the sentencing brings some measure of closure for her family and the community.
