An Illinois man faces a lengthy prison sentence after a 2020 road rage shooting left one man dead, officials said.
In August 2020, Dru Jarvis was riding in a white sedan in Elgin, about 40 miles northwest of Chicago, when the driver attempted to change lanes but nearly collided with another car, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The other car, driven by Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga’s co-worker, honked as both were heading home from work, prosecutors said.
The sedan then pulled up beside the vehicle, and Jarvis opened fire, striking Trujillo-Uscanga in the torso and his co-worker multiple times in the legs, officials reported.
Trujillo-Uscanga, 41, was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A week later, Jarvis was involved in another shooting and was arrested, receiving a four-year prison sentence in 2021. His role in that second incident helped investigators link him to the road rage shooting, authorities said.
Jarvis was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and armed violence. Prosecutors said he personally fired the weapon, adding mandatory sentencing enhancements of 25 years to life on the murder and attempted murder charges.
He now faces a minimum of 96 years in prison and is scheduled to appear in court on December 3.
