SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — The Illinois Supreme Court has disciplined several attorneys for misconduct, including misappropriation of funds, failure to represent clients diligently, and other ethical violations.
Among those disciplined, Steven Jacob Barkin was disbarred for misappropriating $393,000 from clients. Charles F. Morrissey was disbarred on consent for misappropriating $388,000 in two separate matters, and Eric J. Ryan was disbarred on consent for misappropriating $30,000 from an estate in a wrongful death case.
Other attorneys received suspensions. William Michael Doyle Jr. was suspended for three years for sending clients false bills over a 20-year period. Thomas Guy DeVore received a 60-day suspension for engaging in a sexual relationship with a client and filing frivolous litigation against her. Hyun Woong Shin was suspended for 60 days for misleading a family about the status of an eviction complaint.
