The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of eastern and southeastern Indiana, southwest and south-central Ohio, and northern Kentucky Thursday, citing a developing system that threatens to bring significant snow to the region this weekend.
The watch is in force from Saturday morning until Sunday morning, with snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches expected. The storm may make travel “very difficult,” forecasters predicted, especially Saturday night and early Sunday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in force from 7 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday, with 1 to 3 inches of snow forecast before the main system arrives.
Fayette, Union, Franklin, Ripley, Dearborn, and Ohio counties in Indiana; Butler, Warren, Clinton, Ross, Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Highland, Adams, Pike, and Scioto counties in Ohio; and Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties in Kentucky. The watch region includes major cities like Cincinnati, Hamilton, Middletown, Wilmington, and Portsmouth.
Snow is expected to fall Saturday morning, intensify throughout the afternoon, and fade by early Sunday. Heavy snowfall can substantially impair visibility, and untreated roadways can quickly become treacherous.
The weather agency advised locals to prepare for hazardous travel and to follow forecast updates, as the watch might be escalated to a winter storm warning.
If driving is necessary, motorists should reduce their speed and ensure they have emergency supplies like blankets, flashlights, and water ready.
