Kentucky & Indiana Weather Alert: Cold Advisory For Sunday As Wind Chills Reach -10

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in place for a significant section of south-central Indiana, as well as central, north-central, and south-central Kentucky. A supplementary advisory covers sections of south-central Kentucky, including the Barren River region, where wind chills will be around zero degrees.

Wind chills in the major advisory region, which includes Louisville, Lexington, Elizabethtown, Frankfort, Bowling Green, Corydon, Jasper, Scottsburg, Paoli, Madison, Campbellsville, Bardstown, and Danville, may drop to 10 degrees below zero between 1 a.m. EST (midnight CST) and 1 p.m. EST (noon CST) Sunday. NWS forecasters warn that if precautions are not followed, these temperatures may result in frostbite or hypothermia.

Adair, Allen, Barren, Clinton, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, and Russell counties will all be under a separate advisory over the same overnight period, with wind chills forecast to reach zero degrees. Glasgow, Columbia, Scottsville, Tompkinsville, and Albany are among the communities served.

The coldest period will occur soon before sunrise, when temperatures drop into the teens and winds remain strong due to a persistent Arctic air mass. Officials advise residents to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and avoid prolonged outside activities. Portable heaters should be used with caution, and generators or barbecues should never be used indoors owing to carbon monoxide dangers.

Residents are also urged to monitor on elderly neighbors, relatives, and those with low heating means when the hazardous chill sets in.
