WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Investigators say a simple grocery store receipt helped uncover what may be a multi-state retail theft operation.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 36-year-old Kiara Simmons of Coconut Creek after finding nearly $2,000 in stolen Lululemon merchandise inside her car.
The case began when a Grand Boulevard maintenance worker discovered a bag filled with anti-theft devices and a grocery store receipt. Investigators used the receipt and FLOCK camera technology to identify the shopper linked to the discarded items.
Authorities said Simmons had visited Lululemon stores in Grayton, Grand Boulevard, and Destin Commons the previous day. Store staff confirmed she had entered the stores and allegedly used an anti-theft tool to avoid triggering security alarms.
While deputies were tracking her down, they learned she had returned to the Grand Boulevard Lululemon in an attempt to return items without a receipt or ID. Deputies confronted her in the parking lot as she loaded bags into her vehicle.
Inside the car, investigators found:
-
Stolen Lululemon merchandise
-
Tools used to block anti-theft sensors
-
Multiple IDs belonging to other women
-
Refund and exchange receipts from Texas
-
Evidence of suspicious returns at Lululemon stores in Tennessee
Simmons was arrested and charged with retail theft and multiple counts of using an anti-shoplifting control device. She was issued a $10,000 bond and remains in jail.
