Man adopts dog after video shows woman’s abandonment in Miami-Dade

SWEETWATER, Fla. — An abandoned dog has found a forever home in Miami-Dade County.

Surveillance video captured a woman leaving the neglected dog on Wednesday near Southwest 103 Avenue and Second Street in Sweetwater.

Abraham Siu discovered the goldendoodle pacing anxiously in his yard. His security camera recorded the moment the woman abandoned the dog.

Siu shared the video on a neighborhood app. Wag Spot groomed the goldendoodle, and Pastor Garcilazo decided to adopt him, renaming him “Leo.”

Garcilazo noticed the dog responds to Spanish commands, so instead of “Sit!” it’s “Sientate.” He showers Leo with treats and kisses, and the dog was seen wearing a red sweater.

“I don’t know the reasons why she did it,” Garcilazo said on Friday. “There are ways to do it.”

Miami-Dade County Animal Services, which maintains an online animal abuser registry, and the Sweetwater Police Department responded to the case.
