INDIANA — A Marion County corrections employee was arrested Tuesday for attempting to traffic drugs into the county jail.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said its intelligence unit intercepted jail communications that suggested the employee’s involvement in drug trafficking. Detectives arrested him when he reported for work on September 16.
Officials found drugs on the employee and in his car. He had worked with the sheriff’s office for one year and had no prior disciplinary history. After the arrest, he was immediately terminated and booked into the same jail where he had worked.
“The public places immense trust in their public safety officials, and that trust is non-negotiable. Today’s arrest makes that clear,” Sheriff Kerry Forestal said.
The sheriff’s office stated it will seek charges including official misconduct, trafficking with an inmate, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine the formal charges.
