Mercer County – A plea hearing is set for Dec. 2 for a Mercer County sheriff’s deputy accused of driving the wrong way on I-74 while intoxicated.
Lewis Andrews, 25, was charged in April with DUI, driving the wrong way on a highway, and improper lane usage.
Online court records don’t indicate which charges Andrews plans to plead to at the December hearing.
TV6 Investigates first reported Andrews’ arrest and obtained dashcam footage from the Colona Police Department showing the stop and arrest. After reviewing the video, TV6 Investigates asked Henry County State’s Attorney Catherine Runty why Andrews wasn’t charged with eluding. Runty explained that his actions didn’t meet the legal standard required for that charge.
Mercer County Sheriff Dusty Terrill told TV6 Investigates that Andrews would be held to the same standard—if not a higher one—than ordinary citizens during the process. Terrill said Andrews would face “serious consequences in his employment,” but declined to comment on his employment status as of July.
