Miami Beach Police Officer Dies in Motorcycle Crash on I-75 Extension

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A Miami Beach police officer was killed Tuesday morning after a motorcycle crash in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Authorities said the accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. near the Gratigny Parkway and Interstate 75 Extension, close to the Palmetto Expressway.

The officer was identified as 33-year-old David Cajuso, a 10-year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department.

Cajuso was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition but later died from his injuries, police confirmed.

Before joining Miami Beach Police, Cajuso served with the Hollywood Police Department. He came from a family of first responders — his father was a firefighter with Miami Beach Fire Rescue. He is survived by his wife and three young children, ages two, three, and five.

Helicopter footage from the crash site showed multiple emergency vehicles and officers gathered in a grassy area beside the roadway, where the police motorcycle was seen lying on its side.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and said no other vehicles were involved. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the crash.

Hundreds of officers from across South Florida gathered at the hospital to pay tribute to Cajuso and support his grieving family.

Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones called the loss “devastating” and urged the public to keep Cajuso’s loved ones in their thoughts as the investigation continues.
