Miami-Dade County Announces Launch of Metro Express Service to South Dade

Miami-Dade County, Fla. — Miami-Dade County is set to make history with the launch of Metro Express, the county’s first-ever Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and the nation’s longest all-electric BRT service, designed to transform transit along the busy US-1 corridor.

Starting October 27, 2025, the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) will provide South Dade commuters with a new, reliable, and comfortable transit connection from Florida City to Dadeland South.

To celebrate the launch, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, DTPW leadership, the Board of County Commissioners, and state and federal officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 22 at one of the 14 new signature BRT stations.

The 20-mile Metro Express route along US-1 features a dedicated lane protected by gate arms and priority during rush hour, ensuring a safe and efficient ride. The 14 signature BRT stations include amenities such as air-conditioned waiting areas, modern shaded designs, bike-friendly boarding and storage, water fountains, free Wi-Fi, and mobile device charging stations.

The project was funded with $100 million investments from each partnering agency: Miami-Dade County through the People’s Transportation half-penny surtax, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) via its capital investment grant.
