Miami-Dade Deputy Arrested After Allegedly Choking Girlfriend During Argument

A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested Sunday after allegedly choking his girlfriend during a domestic dispute, reports say.

Authorities charged Vikardy Theodore, 25, with domestic battery by strangulation after his girlfriend of six years told investigators he applied pressure to her throat, restricting her breathing for 35 to 40 seconds, according to the arrest report. She said the incident followed an argument that escalated.

The report noted the woman had minor red markings on her neck. Theodore has pleaded not guilty, according to court documents filed Monday by his attorney, David Braun.

Police handcuffed Theodore at his North Miami apartment and booked him into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He later posted $2,500 bail and was released. A bond court judge ordered him to stay away from the alleged victim.

The Miami Herald contacted the sheriff’s office for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication. Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz told Local 10 she was “disappointed” by the arrest.

“Domestic battery is a serious offense. This behavior is unacceptable, and deputies under my leadership are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct at all times,” the sheriff said.
