A Miami-Dade family is mourning after 24-year-old Moses Mangham was shot dead on Christmas Eve in the Brownsville area, in what his mother believes was a case of mistaken identity.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded around 2 a.m. Wednesday to a ShotSpotter alert near Northwest 63rd Street and 21st Avenue. Upon arrival, they found Mangham and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Mangham later died. The woman, reportedly the sister of Mangham’s girlfriend, survived.
Mangham’s mother, Tara Ealey, described her son as innocent and hardworking. “My son is very much innocent,” she said. “He’s not a thug. He’s not a gang banger. He doesn’t do wrong. He works.” Mangham was the father of two daughters, aged 8 years and 3 months, and was staying with his girlfriend at the Lincoln Fields apartment complex at the time of the shooting.
Ealey said the family believes Mangham was not the intended target. “I just wish they would turn themselves in or something, because they shot and killed the wrong guy,” she said. Authorities are reportedly reviewing surveillance footage from Lincoln Fields to help identify the suspects.
The case remains under investigation, with deputies giving limited information, though they may have leads. The family hopes justice will be served for Mangham’s tragic and untimely death.
