Milder Temperatures Today Will Help Melt More Snow and Ice

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) — A warm front moving east across the region today will bring a bit of a warm-up compared to Monday. Clouds will build in from the northwest, giving much of the area partly sunny skies. Highs will range from the mid-30s in the east to the upper 40s in the west. Conditions will be milder in the west, where there is less snow on the ground and colder air has less influence. Enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts, as changes are coming tomorrow.

A cold front will approach from the north late tonight, increasing cloud cover and possibly bringing flurries north of I-80, which could continue into tomorrow. As the front pushes south through the area, it will bring a blast of cold Canadian air. Morning highs will range from the mid-20s north to the mid-30s south. By late afternoon, temperatures will drop, with breezy north winds bringing highs to the mid-10s northeast and around 30° in the southwest. Partial clearing is expected into the afternoon, with overnight skies continuing to clear as high pressure builds east of the Missouri River.

The coldest air Wednesday night into Thursday morning will settle over eastern and northeastern Nebraska, with lows in the single digits and some dipping below zero. Sub-zero wind chills are possible, even though winds won’t be strong. Western areas, farther from the high-pressure system and influenced by a warm front, will see lows in the 10s. This trend of cold nights and milder days is expected to continue through the week.

Thursday will bring more sunshine, with highs from the mid-20s east to the lower 40s west. Friday looks partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Minimal chances of moisture are possible Friday and over the weekend, though current confidence is low. Another push of colder air is expected Saturday into Sunday, mainly affecting northern and eastern areas. Beyond that, milder air is expected next week, with some areas potentially reaching the 50s.
