Multiple dead, several injured in series of Mississippi homecoming shootings

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — A string of violent incidents across Mississippi has left multiple people dead and several others injured after a weekend of homecoming celebrations turned tragic.

Alcorn State University: A woman was killed and two others were injured in a shooting Saturday evening on campus. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case. According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. near the Industrial Technology Building. Responding officers found three victims with gunshot wounds.

Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods confirmed that one woman, identified as 29-year-old Brekyra Fisher of Vicksburg, died from her injuries. Two others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The Claiborne County Coroner’s Office confirmed Fisher’s family has been notified. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Jackson State University: Interim Police Chief Tyree Jones said a child was struck by gunfire near the tailgate area during JSU’s homecoming festivities Saturday night. The child was taken to a hospital, and no suspect is currently in custody.

Heidelberg: A Bay Springs teenager has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting during Heidelberg High School’s homecoming celebration Friday night. According to the Jasper County Jail records, 18-year-old Tylar Jarod Goodloe faces two counts of capital murder and possession of a deadly weapon on educational property.

Goodloe was arrested around 10 a.m. Saturday and initially booked on a “hold by another agency” charge. His charges were upgraded to capital murder Sunday afternoon. The Heidelberg Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are leading the case. The victims’ names have not yet been released, and investigators have not confirmed a motive.

Leland: A mass shooting in downtown Leland during a high school homecoming event left four people dead and several others critically injured Friday night. Authorities are searching for multiple individuals connected to the shooting.

Rolling Fork: Two suspects have been arrested in a shooting that occurred Friday night during a high school football event. One person, identified as Quindale Wise, was found outside the stadium with two gunshot wounds and remains in stable condition.

The suspects, identified as Justin Pam and Michael Miles Jr., were taken into custody. Sheriff Herbert Ceaser confirmed the arrests and said the investigation is ongoing.
