MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 30-year-old motorcyclist was arrested late Thursday night after authorities said he fired shots at a car in southwest Miami-Dade.
The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. near the 26000 block of South Dixie Highway in the Princeton area.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the victim was driving a beige Toyota Corolla south on Dixie Highway when she attempted to pass a red Yamaha motorcycle.
She stopped at the Southwest 260th Street intersection, where Fabian Alejandro Lopez allegedly pulled up beside her and began yelling, the report said.
When the light turned green, deputies said the victim drove past Lopez. He then approached her car and threatened to break the side mirrors, according to the report.
Deputies said the victim recorded the confrontation on her cellphone. She told investigators that Lopez spat in her face, made a U-turn, and drove north in the opposite direction.
The victim followed him to a parking lot while trying to get his tag number. Police said that’s when Lopez approached her vehicle holding a gun.
Fearing for her safety, the victim drove off, and Lopez fired two shots, hitting the rear passenger door of her car. She then fled to a nearby gas station and called 911, deputies said.
Deputies located Lopez shortly afterward and recovered a Glock 47 9mm during the search.
During questioning, Lopez admitted to the incident, saying he spat at the car, not the driver, and claimed her driving “placed a fear in him that she was going to run him over,” according to the report.
Investigators said he also confessed to pulling a gun to scare her and firing two shots.
Jail records show Lopez faces one count of shooting or throwing a deadly missile and one count of battery.
As of Friday afternoon, he remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with his bond listed as “to be set.”
