DAVENPORT, Iowa — A motorcyclist was injured by gunfire during a chase between two cars early July 5, police say.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on the 200 block of Western Avenue. Witnesses reported that two cars chasing each other turned onto Western Avenue, and gunfire erupted. Both vehicles sustained damage from the shooting.
One of the bullets struck a motorcyclist waiting at a stoplight. The rider was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment.
Police investigation revealed that 21-year-old Johntarrius A. Thorpe of Moline, Illinois, was a passenger in a Ford Fusion being pursued by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Shots were fired from both vehicles, and while Thorpe fired toward the Jeep, he also hit the uninvolved motorcyclist.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14, and a $20,000 cash-only bond has been set.
