New Year’s radio calls include car stuck on tracks, fireworks scare in Plattsmouth

NEBRASKA CITY — Police investigated a Subaru that became stuck on the Union Pacific railroad crossing on Central Avenue at 1:58 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

According to radio traffic, the driver attempted to turn north at the tracks without realizing there was no roadway in that direction. All four tires of the Subaru went over the edge of the concrete surface.

Union Pacific placed a hold on the tracks from 2:15 a.m. to 2:50 a.m. while the situation was addressed.

County officials also responded to a fireworks complaint in Dunbar, north of McGinley Street.

Additional reports included damaged signage near Highway 75 and R Road, as well as a possible DUI complaint near Steinhart Park Road at 4:31 a.m.

In Cass County, Plattsmouth Fire Department crews were dispatched on New Year’s Eve after a firework went through the metal siding of a mobile home on South 15th Street and became lodged in the drywall. Firefighters reported no fire hazards at the scene.
