A strengthening storm system is expected to deliver stronger-than-expected winds to sections of Northern California late tonight and into Sunday, triggering a Wind Advisory in numerous counties.
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Eureka, Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties, citing southerly winds gusting up to 55 mph, particularly along exposed peaks and coastal headlands. The caution is in force until early Sunday afternoon.
Breezy conditions are forecast in adjacent Trinity County, with south winds gusting to 25–40 mph over higher altitudes and exposed locations through Sunday.
Forecasters warn that strong winds could cause localized power outages, felled trees, and tree damage, especially in regions already soaked by recent rainfall. Motorists may meet debris on the road, resulting in hazardous driving conditions, particularly on coastal highways and mountain routes.
The wind may blow loose outdoor objects around, creating additional hazards. Residents should secure holiday decorations, trash cans, and other unsecured items ahead of the heaviest winds.
The wind event is being driven by a strong low-pressure system approaching the region, and meteorologists warn that conditions might change quickly. Residents in Humboldt County, Mendocino County, Lake County, Trinity County, and the surrounding Northern California regions should monitor for updates and prepare for any interruptions.
