Northwest Miami-Dade Home Destroyed by Fire, No Injuries Reported as Homeowner’s Son Speaks Out

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — A home in Northwest Miami-Dade was badly damaged by a fire Saturday after an e-bike burst into flames. No fatalities were reported.

Josue Paz, the homeowner’s son, said one of his birthday gifts sparked the fire that destroyed the family’s home. The incident happened near the 181st block of Northwest 53rd Street.

“The bike was right here and it just exploded upwards and I was just asleep and I woke up immediately like that and I just had to get everybody out,” said Paz.

City of Miami Fire Rescue crews responded quickly and extinguished the e-bike fire within minutes.

“All my birthday gifts got destroyed, all my clothes got destroyed. All my shoes got destroyed. Everything of mine got destroyed,” Paz said.

Everyone inside the home escaped safely before the flames spread, but Paz, five family members, and the family dog were displaced by the fire.

“As you can see the bike that caught on fire, these are the remains of it,” Paz said.

Despite the loss, Paz said he is thankful that no one was hurt.

“It’s upsetting, but we’ve got the most important thing which is life you know,” he said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the Paz family, and investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
