ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) — Multiple agencies continue to search for Johnell Smith III after he escaped from the custody of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for Smith’s arrest, with Crime Stoppers contributing $1,500 and a private fund adding $3,500.
Smith escaped on Nov. 12 from a program in Chicago, officials said.
In April 2023, 17-year-old Danny Taylor was killed during a home invasion in Milan, Illinois. Smith was convicted of the murder and sentenced to 35 years.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500. All tips are anonymous, and callers will receive a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest.
Taylor’s family said they remain concerned for their safety with a convicted killer still on the run.
