A fast-moving system will bring strong winds, a wintry mix, and difficult travel conditions to parts of the state tonight and Wednesday. Meteorologists predict wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph in some areas, particularly central and western Ohio.
Widespread Wind Gusts Expected Across the State
The greatest winds are expected to hit towns like Columbus, Dayton, Lima, Mansfield, Defiance, and Cincinnati, with gusts approaching 45 mph.
Eastern and southeastern Ohio, including Cambridge, Canton, and Chillicothe, will continue to see strong gusts, ranging from 30 to 40 mph.
The wind speeds are powerful enough to cause:
- Difficult driving for high-profile vehicles
- Scattered minor tree or limb damage
- Reduced visibility in areas experiencing snow or wintry mix
Wintry Weather Will Accompany the Winds
Along with the severe winds, experts predict rain, a wintry mix, and snow from late Tuesday to Wednesday.
Snow showers and mixed precipitation may decrease visibility and make surfaces slick in the morning and midday.
Even during rain breaks, Wednesday will be blustery and cold, with winds gradually easing by the evening.
Travel Impacts Likely Through Wednesday
Transportation experts warn that the combination of strong gusts and snowy precipitation could make driving dangerous, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute.
Drivers are encouraged to:
- Allow for extra travel time
- Use caution on bridges and overpasses
- Monitor changing conditions through midday Wednesday
